This paper was created in a policy class I took on contemporary issues in American politics. This particular paper looks at the income inequality and how it has changed in the US.

Poverty And Inequality: A Self-Feeding System

            In cultures and religions around the world, charity and giving have been themes that are widely accepted. But when it comes to words like “social policy” or “welfare” which are synonymous with words of giving, they have become anathema in the eyes of the American public. This is even more alarming in the context of recent inequality and poverty rates, but unfortunately not surprising.  As we see a growing gap between the opportunities and outcomes of the lower versus the upper classes, while examining the causes of this disparity, we find that current policy solutions are insufficient, and that addressing the issues with more creativity and fervor just might create more equality in the most prosperous country in the world.
